And then there are the ones you never forget.

In our profession, we come across technical incidentsevery day… but also completely improbable situations. Unusual computer bugs that make us smile, roll our eyes, or question everything for two days.

Because behind the control lines and system diagnostics, there’s the human element, with its habits, forgetfulness and intuitions. Here are a few anecdotes from our team at Avepto, on the borderline between the absurd, the comic and the educational.

The eternal restart that saves everything

“Have you tried rebooting?” This sentence seems banal, almost cartoonish. And yet…

One day, after an hour of logs, firewall tests, network analysis and muffled sighs, the problem was solved by simply rebooting the workstation. Nothing indicated it, nothing justified it. But it worked.

Moral: never forget the basics, even when the bug seems to come from NASA.

When the problem is not in the machine… but in front of it

A customer contacts us in a panic: her laptop won’t turn on. No noise, no light.

First question: “Is it plugged in correctly?” She takes offense and hangs up.

Second call, still in distress. We travel to Lausanne. The diagnosis was immediate: the cable was simply not connected to the socket.

This kind of mistake reminds us of something essential: patience and kindness are skills as valuable as technical ones.

The software that crashes… everywhere but at the boss’s house

This one made us lose our Latin.

Crucial software started crashing as soon as it was launched, on all user workstations except one: the boss’s. No errors, no suspicious logs, nothing in the system logs. No errors, no suspicious logs, nothing in the system logs. We checked everything: drivers, DLLs, antivirus, GPOs, versions…

The cause? A Windows update that deactivated a component… except on the Enterprise version of the boss, which hadn’t been updated in months.

Solved in one command line. Resolution time: two days.

A repeated question can become a strength

Some customers ask the same question over and over again.

Instead of sighing, we ended up answering it once and for all, by creating a simple, clear resource integrated into our support tool.

Since then, we’ve been responding to this request in just two clicks, and this reflex saves us time… every day.

Why these stories matter

These anecdotes bring a smile. But they also reveal the true nature of our profession.
Because IT is not just about code, cloud, and firewalls. It also involves:

Listening

Common sense

Behavioral analysis

And a great deal of adaptability

It is often the simplest details that make all the difference. And it is in these moments that we understand that technical skill alone is not enough: one must be able to read between the lines, understand user practices, and demonstrate humility.

The richness of a human approach

At Avepto, we believe in a more human approach to IT.
Every bug, every incident, every request is an opportunity to learn, to improve, and sometimes… to laugh.
And it is often through these “unusual bugs” that we build the strongest relationships with our clients. Because they see us resolve the unexpected, without jargon, without judgment, and with a smile.

A job of observation… and prevention

Beyond the anecdote, these cases also reveal a major challenge: the prevention of recurring errors.
This is why user awareness, including the simplest fundamentals, is part of our mission.
The Swiss NCSC (Federal Office for Cybersecurity) also offers useful resources to avoid common errors, improve basic reflexes, and understand that security also involves daily actions.

Conclusion: bugs are part of the game

Yes, we have encountered some wild bugs. And yes, sometimes, it’s not a technical problem… but a human one.
But that is precisely what makes our profession so fascinating. At Avepto, we don’t just provide technical solutions.
We offer trust, education, responsiveness… and, from time to time, a good dose of composure.
And you? What is the wildest bug you have encountered?

In our profession, we come across technical incidents every day… but also completely improbable situations.
